Weight and Safety Seminar and RV Weigh-In

At Pikes Peak Traveland we are holding our annual Weight and Safety Seminar and RV Weigh-In with the RV Safety & Education Foundation (RVSEF). We are going to cover why it’s important to know the weight of your RV, how to properly load and use your RV, how to check the weight, and make sure your RV is safe and ready to go.

Why is it Important to weigh your vehicle?

In a simple answer, it is a safety hazard. If your RV is exceeding the maximum weight it is meant to hold, not only will it wear out your RV faster, but your RV has ratings on its brakes and tires that correspond with the weight of the rig. This makes it more difficult to stop your RV, possibly creating a collision. Weighing your vehicle is important because you need to know if your RV exceeds the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (RVWR) or Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR).

How much weight can my RV handle?

The answer to this question is tricky, it varies depending on your RV and manufacturer. We’ll help you find out the proper weight for your RV and help you weigh it at our Weigh-In. If you exceed the proper weight, it will cause damage to your RV over time that you will eventually need to repair.

What will happen if I don’t check the weight of my RV?

Most failures and problems in RVs are caused by misuse, underinflation, or old age. Not checking the weight capacity or weight rating given by the manufacturers of your RV before using it is considered a misuse of your vehicle.
