Owning an RV is similar to owning a house, however, the safety measures for your pets are quite different. We want to make sure that you and your pets stay safe, healthy, and happy while using your RV when you’re on the road and when you’re staying put for a couple of days. Read below to learn about RV pet safety.

How to monitor your pet if you leave your RV

It’s okay to leave your pet in your RV while you go out and enjoy yourself, however, you need to have everything set up properly to make sure you and your pet are comfortable while you’re separated. First, you need to make sure that the temperature in the RV is well regulated and you want to make sure your pet has everything they need including food and water. If you’d like another way to check on your pets, you can install cameras in your RV or trailer to see if they’re okay and even consider getting a tracking collar or harness for them in case of an emergency.

Pet safety when your driving

To ensure that your pet doesn’t get hurt while you are on the road you need to make sure they are in a secure and protected spot. Usually, in an RV there will be areas that are safe such as crates, a bed, or a couch. If you put your pet in a crate, make sure it is secured and won’t slide while driving. These spots are only safe for your pet if it’s a motor home where you can monitor your pet. When towing a trailer, however, the pet must be in the vehicle with you while you are on the road, this keeps your companion safe because it allows you to monitor them. If something happened in the trailer or there was an accident, your pet is safest by your side.

Take bathroom breaks while on the road

It’s important to take frequent bathroom breaks while traveling to make sure your fluffy friends get to use the restroom. You don’t want to find a smelly mess in your RV for plenty of reasons. If you don’t it could lead to a smell in your RV that will last and possible damage to your vehicle. The number of times you stop depends on the pet, usually, for dogs, you should let them get outside the RV at least 3 times a day and let them stretch their legs before getting on the road again.

Taking these precautions will make your trip more comfortable because you get to bring your pets while also knowing everyone is safe and happy.
